Holden One Tonner Ute

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Holden has many versions of pick ups and cars we took a look at its one tonner and found the following. The One Tonner cabin offers enough room for two and is comfortable and spacious enough for those long hours in the saddle. Electric height adjustment for the driver’s seat and a seat tilt lever for simple access to storage area behind. A common Commodore Ute complaint is the lack of in-cabin storage which Holden addressed with 250 litres of recessed storage space, including a big glove box, door pockets and centre console bin.The dashboard is pure VY Commodore as is the reach and height adjustable wheel and stereo controls on the S we drove. There’s a commendable lack of road noise, though the tray does rattle a little from time to time.

A driver’s airbag is standard. Anti-lock brakes are standard on the S The 296mm front and 286mm rear discs feel more than up to the heavy loads a One Tonner will be carrying. Seat belts have pre tensioners and the buckles are seat mounted to ensure a consistent fit regardless of where the seat is on the tracks. Side rearward vision is a bit restricted by the tray but a set of Cobargo Pub mirrors would soon sort that.

The One Tonner is essentially the monocoque front half of the sedan/ute and a sturdy separate chassis rear with an aluminium tray. Holden achieves what it claims is a very rigid installation by bolting two vertical uprights at the front of the chassis frame to the rear of the cab, instead of welding it in place.Like the other Commodore ute, this one is built on the long wheelbase chassis that spans the Statesman/Caprice. At 5230mm it’s 37mm longer than the Statesman, which could make tight manoeuvring a bit harder, but trade-offs must be made for carrying capacity. Each of the Cab Chassis variants come with a choice of three trays, including a hardwood floor, so there is something for everyone. The Renault Megane A Go Anywhere Car

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

It doesn’t take long to spot the Megane hatch’s most distinctive feature, as its bold styling definitely marks this as a car that stands out from the crowd. Its dynamic, radical look has polarised punters since it first appeared in Europe

The biggest departure from the norm is the hatch, which although a great design, does compromise the boot space. In contrast the saloon, though stylish, is a conservative design, which will appeal to buyers who prefer to blend into their surroundings rather than draw attention themselves.

There is very long list of standard equipment that is unusual for a small car of this class, including cruise control, automatic headlights, rain-sensing automatic windscreen wipers plus speed-sensitive variable power assistance for the steering.

The front MacPherson strut, rear torsion beam suspension is well damped, ensuring a comfortable ride over all sorts of surfaces at a variety of speeds. The solid build of the car and the addition of loads of insulation material means the levels of noise vibration and harshness are also extremely low.

On the equipment front, the car is well specced, even in its base form, with power front and rear windows (one touch up and down for the driver), remote central locking with a credit card style key and push button starter, air-conditioning and a six-speaker radio CD player..

The Megane was the first car in its class to achieve a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating — the highest possible — and apart from its superb road manners providing a sure and predictable means of dodging a crash in the first place, is loaded with passive safety features.

Stopping power is provided by four disc brakes, fitted with an anti-lock system that incorporates electronic brake force distribution and brake assist functions. Although effective, the brakes are applied with a pedal that initially feels a bit soft.

TOYOTA COROLLA ASCENT ITS ABSOLUTELY RELIABLE

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

For all their perceived virtues – including almost absolute reliability, great durability, low operating costs, and high resale – the used Toyota Corollas of yore were atypical Japanese automotive appliances, meaning four-wheeled white goods that didn’t even try getting your glands going in the visual, dynamic, or driving departments.

Corolla’s engine is the pick of the bunch, no risk. With the sophistication of VVT-i variable valve timing added to its already brimming larder of technical features, the 1ZZ-FE engine makes more power than any here and runs the largerMitsubishi Lancer close for maximum torque, while having the group’s greatest specific power output and best power-to-weight ratio.

.The only less-than-impressive aspect is the clunky gearshift, which has very easy operation, but with notchier, noisier travels between the slots. Slightly lower than average gearing means the Corolla also sounds a bit busier than its rivals when cruising.

.The medium-weighted steering points fairly faithfully and the car handles confidently, even when pushed into corners at top speeds, because the Ascent maintains composure with its well balanced handling attitudes. The all-disc brakes perform strongly under duress, especially in situations where the ABS proves that it’s money well spent.

Anyone familiar with Corolla cabins will soon appreciate that this is a big advance. For example, adult-size rear room is a first for Corolla. While rear headroom is merely adequate, and the decently deep cushion is a tad firm and flat for some tastes, the rear bench is the group’s most accommodating overall.

The front buckets are very acceptable, too, as is the interior’s presentation; with the exception of the unlovely moulded headlining. But the almost matt-black Euro-style centre stack and crisply legible, green-tinged instruments are a revelation for Corolla.

You might quibble that the big, grabby radio buttons are a stretch too far, and/or the cream-coloured ‘Ivory’ trim is too easily sullied. Otherwise, the cabin scores strongly because it no longer champions coke-bottle plastics or Best And Less visuals.Search Second Hand Toyota Car Sales in Wexford for a car that suits your needs.

The Mazda 6 MPS Its The Pick Of The Bunch

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Picking the MPS version of the Mazda 6 from the outside is easy if you know where to look. Most obvious change is that bulging bonnet, which is not purely aesthetic, but channels air to the intercooler. Then there’s the deep chin spoiler and 15-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance 18-inch rubber.. Beneath that bulging bonnet lies a significantly new turbocharged engine, which produces 190kW/380Nm compared to the basic 6’s 122kW/207Nm naturally aspirated engine. All four wheels can do the driving on the MPS, via a trick electronic all-wheel drive system which can transfer up to 50 per cent of the engine’s output to the rear wheels when it deems necessary.Inside, the MPS additions are minimal; more heavily bolstered sports front seats, surface changes armid the centre control stack, and material changes to better suit the vehicles performance aspirations..Back seat comfort is identical to a standard 6, which means good leg and head room, and enough width for three adults at a pinch, though two will be far more comfortableThe MPS includes large disc brakes at each corner with single-piston callipers. ABS antilock braking is standard, as is traction control. Disabling the DSC via the dash-mounted button disables the traction control, but not the ABS.Aah, that engine. Essentially based on the 6’s 2.3-litre, four-cylinder alloy block, it gets a significant number of extras, not the least is direct injection and a high-pressure turbocharger. Mazda says direct injection offers a number of benefits when teamed with a turbocharger.Mazda also claims this combination reduces emission levels over indirect injection turbos, and provides slightly better fuel economyThe end result of direct injection, turbocharging is 190kW and 380Nm, which is a significant increase on the standard 6’s engine. Performance enters the realm of the very quick, with 0-100km/h at 6.6 seconds. The system automatically selects one of three driving models (Normal, Sports, Snow) that best suits your driving and the conditions. Used Car Vocabulary

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

When it comes to buying and selling used cars, there may be some vocabulary that you might have never heard before. The following terms are some of the more common ones that are used in reference to used cars.

Asking Price If the term ‘asking price’ is used then you can more or less take it for granted that you can negotiate on the price and that the buyer will be willing to drop. If you see a “firm” price then you can’t negotiate.

Banger/clunkers You may have been wondering what the term ‘banger’ means; it means that the car is only fit for the scrap heap. Buying a banger is probably the biggest mistake you could make when it comes to used cars. However if you were looking to buy a used car in order to restore it then a banger would be the one to go for.

Buyer’s Remorse Quite often there are individuals who buy used cars only to feel remorse afterwards. Once they have gotten over the joy and excitement that a newly bought car brings, they quite often begin to regret having made the purchase. This buyer’s remorse can be even stronger if the buyer has had to borrow in order to buy the car.

Dealer Invoice Price this is the amount of money that the dealer pays for used cars. Before they sell it on they will add extra on so that they can make a profit.

Green Car The cars which have low carbon emissions and which are considered to be fuel efficient are known as ‘green’ cars. Most modern cars are built to be kinder to the environment. These ‘green’ cars will be not only more environmentally friendly but they will help us to save money on fuel.

Market prices this refers to the price of a car based on demand for that car. The location and time will play a role in the market price of a car. For example certain cars go in and out of fashion.

The terms above are just a few of the more popular terms you may hear when it comes to buying used cars.

If the time has come for you to be searching out used cars for sale, it’s always best to carry out a proper research ahead of time. Good research lets you find only the best models available. Once you’ve finished, you could find youself driving away from the dealers in a used cars Scottish Borders or even a used cars Somerset.
