Used Car Vocabulary
Tuesday, July 6th, 2010When it comes to buying and selling used cars, there may be some vocabulary that you might have never heard before. The following terms are some of the more common ones that are used in reference to used cars.
Asking Price If the term ‘asking price’ is used then you can more or less take it for granted that you can negotiate on the price and that the buyer will be willing to drop. If you see a “firm” price then you can’t negotiate.
Banger/clunkers You may have been wondering what the term ‘banger’ means; it means that the car is only fit for the scrap heap. Buying a banger is probably the biggest mistake you could make when it comes to used cars. However if you were looking to buy a used car in order to restore it then a banger would be the one to go for.
Buyer’s Remorse Quite often there are individuals who buy used cars only to feel remorse afterwards. Once they have gotten over the joy and excitement that a newly bought car brings, they quite often begin to regret having made the purchase. This buyer’s remorse can be even stronger if the buyer has had to borrow in order to buy the car.
Dealer Invoice Price this is the amount of money that the dealer pays for used cars. Before they sell it on they will add extra on so that they can make a profit.
Green Car The cars which have low carbon emissions and which are considered to be fuel efficient are known as ‘green’ cars. Most modern cars are built to be kinder to the environment. These ‘green’ cars will be not only more environmentally friendly but they will help us to save money on fuel.
Market prices this refers to the price of a car based on demand for that car. The location and time will play a role in the market price of a car. For example certain cars go in and out of fashion.
The terms above are just a few of the more popular terms you may hear when it comes to buying used cars.
