A Closer Look at ICP’s The Wraith by SEO Writer
Every single one of Insane Clown Posse’s albums is out of the ordinary, hence why it’s so popular amongst horror rap heads and other underground rap artists that write the same type of music. If any Insane Clown Posse album was eligible for mainstream radio play, then it wouldn’t be nearly as successful or admired by Juggalos as it is today!
But even with that said, there is one Insane Clown Posse album that stands out from the rest of its horror rap catalogue: ICP’s The Wraith.
ICP’s The Wraith is the only Insane Clown Posse album that directly mentions death in the title. Many other Insane Clown Posse albums hint at the things with eerie connotations, like carnivals or riddle boxes, but ICP’s The Wraith is the only Insane Clown Posse album to flat out imply that death is coming. After all, the dictionary definition of wraith is “an apparition of a living person supposed to portend his or her death.”
Though while this is the first thing that stands out about this album, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise because the genre we’re talking about is indeed horror rap. Horror rap albums, especially those horror rap albums that happen to be Insane Clown Posse albums, have dark titles all the time. If ICP’s The Wraith was a sugar pop album and not an Insane Clown Posse horror rap album, then it would be a bigger deal.
Where ICP’s The Wraith really distinguishes itself among other Insane Clown Posse albums is on the last track, “Thy Unveiling.”
Now most Juggalos, or fans of horror rap for that matter, usually automatically assume that ICP is not a religious band. How is it that any religious band in their right mind could honestly write about the horror rap topics so often covered in Insane Clown Posse albums and not see any contradiction? Few, but ICP is one of them, as evidenced in ICP’s The Wraith track, “Thy Unveiling.”
Here, the famous horror rap group announces that their message all along has been to follow God, and that they follow God. One listen to the lyrics here and you’ll hear the same. Whether this spiritual admission is simultaneously a Christian admission is yet to be determined, but it’s a nonetheless unexpected admission from a band labeled as horror rap.
After hearing this track, suddenly ICP’s The Wraith album cover makes a little more sense. Blue sky and white clouds, a mention of Shangri-La, and it’s clear the band is talking about heaven.
Furthermore, this isn’t the only ICP album to touch on the subject. On 2009′s horrorcore album Bang! Boom! Pow!, the guys express wonderment towards the world we live in and all of its miracles. Miracles of course are not something only religious people speculate about, when proclaiming life’s while defaming science? That’s a classic trait of religious types.
Nonetheless, ICP’s The Wraith was a smash success when released and still continues to be talked about by Juggalos and other underground rap artists a like today. Do you think it’s one of the more memorable ICP albums?
