As you organize a company car classic cars, 10 cars used classic fantastic use for recreational use in general throughout the UK, including a number of classic cars running. Each September or October of the last 10 years we took one of our cars on a grand tour of Europe – the EuroClassic MSA.

EuroClassic October 2007 was a fantastic trip around northern Spain and Portugal, taking in Oporto and Lisbon, including a series of blows to the circuit Estoril in F1. On Sunday the race, (the pen of the last days) of the race took us to this beautiful landscape along the empty roads in full sun. The Jaguar E-Type I bought 6 months ago worked perfectly and purrs along the way that only a Jaguar XK can do. But as we approach the checkpoint to stop our morning coffee I noticed a slight change in engine note. Nothing serious, just a subtle change, which was driving in town or in heavy traffic have not been registered.

We engineer the EuroClassic if we entered the town square next to the van to the mechanic to have a look. After listening carefully, including the time-honored practice of putting a screwdriver in the camshaft and serves as a stethoscope, confirmed Certainly There was a sound! Any e-type with the hood up, drew a crowd of people who become experts and offer their advice on training, time served, the mechanics. After checking the oil fill and remove the exhaust pipe in front of cameras with regard to the conclusion that the exhaust cam is almost dry, oil without going through everything. Lacking the means to solve here, we decided to continue some 500 kilometers Spanish ferry and 300 km in the United Kingdom is not a good idea. Then we call the RAC and after a series of discussions organized to be collected and returned. When I got home would be worthy of an article in itself, but that's another story.

We conclude Run as browsers by other vehicles, regardless of the cost of an engine re-build as the cams are  £ 150 each, no matter it works.

Two weeks later, the E-Type goes home and comes to my local garage. After informed about the problem continue with the diagnosis, fortunately, before deciding to remove and disassemble the engine.

Drain the oil is not an issue is clearly not pieces of chips autumn, if not separated and blocked roads for oil. However, the oil filter is clogged with some very sticky oil Gunge, not just frozen normal. Gunge This shows that is a reddish brown and appears to have paint chips on it. The oil supply pipe to the camshaft is removed and blown through of, evict Gunge stickier spots of red paint. And like all good types, the body is red, but how is motor oil?

The following step is to remove the crankcase with the engine still in place and cause shifts. The interior of the house was painted bright red. Why would anyone want to do something so stupid. Closer inspection found relief in the corner of the sink in which evidently had been raped before and filled with a resin or metal chemicals. Then, supposedly to protect the repair, it was painted. While most of the sink has always painted, inevitably, some of them had flaked off and is pumped around the engine.

Nitromors liberal dose eliminated any paint and repair were not necessary good further action at this point. The sump has been redesigned, a new filter installed, the engine re-filled with fresh oil and oil Fired Up Immediately had food perfect for both camshafts and the engine note was back to the sweet sound that I know and love. Fortunately, no engine of the band down and rebuilding was needed and not needed new levies.

Because some crazy painted the interior of the housing, this was the first EuroClassic not finished with our own. Fortunately, we had full European cover RAC otherwise there would be several thousands of pounds of funding to meet Interior's car (we know that one of the other participants have failed and no cover).

Why on earth this kind of painting the sink? We'll never know.

I would never rust, for two reasons:

  1. A collector design is full of oil, permanently drunk everywhere
  2. E-Type is an aluminum crankcase do anyway.

So rule number one when / if you ever have a housing repair flow into a car in the future. Keep the paint on the outside only.
